5 Reasons Why You Failed On The New Cabbage Soup Diet

Posted by Jason Feldman MS, RD on March 4, 2010

You planned out every single bite for all 7-days of the new cabbage soup diet, yet when you found your stomach growling on day 3, you splurged for a watermelon-sized blueberry muffin.

What happened?

Believe it or not, but falling off the new cabbage soup diet wagon probably wasn’t your fault. Even though it’s not as restrictive as most other weight loss diets, it’s still not the easiest thing to follow.

Here are some reasons why things may have gone awry:

#1 You Weren’t Mentally Ready

The new cabbage soup diet requires 7 days of personal sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears. No one has ever confused the cabbage soup diet with anything but challenging!

But if you want major results, you need to put in major effort. If you have other stressors in your life, like late car payments or a recent breakup, now’s probably not the time to try this diet.

#2 You Didn’t Avoid Temptations

Desserts are hard enough to avoid –never mind when you’re on the new cabbage soup diet!

The lack of refined grains and sugar puts your body into “carb withdrawal mode” –making even the most bland dessert seem like double-chocolate layer cake!

It’s best to completely steer clear of desserts as your hungry stomach might take control!

#3 You Didn’t Track Progress

One of the most valuable diet tips you’ll ever here is to write down everything you eat!

That chocolate cookie seems a lot les tempting when you know you’re going to record it 20 seconds later.

Next time you set out to drop some pounds on the new cabbage soup diet, try to

#4 You Let Yourself Get Bored

We’ve all been there: watching our third Friends rerun in a row, bored to tears. The next thing you know, you find yourself in the kitchen, searching the cupboards for something edible.

The problem? Boredom. When we’re bored, we tend to eat –even if we aren’t hungry!

So when you’re sitting down to plan the 7-days of the new cabbage soup diet, make sure to plan some fun activities along with it.

#5 You Didn’t Eat Often Enough

The diet’s called the new cabbage soup diet, not the starvation diet! Make sure to eat regularly, about 5-6 meals per day is best. Otherwise, you’ll get so ravenous that your stomach will get a mind of it’s own!
